Stationary Engines
At Burghley Game and Country Fair we have a large Stationary Engine Section. There is a wide variety of different engines on display each with its different use as a power source from years gone by. Come and watch them at work as they pop and chuckle along, working a light bulb or pumping water. These clever little machines remind us how things used to be.
Miniature Steam
In the show you will find a miniature steam section, these are smaller versions of the magnificent Steam Engines in all its glory. Watch as these miniature steam engines go to work as the owners start them up and even ride around on them in their section of the show.
Vintage Cars
Come along to see a selection of vintage and rare cars from time gone by. Well worth a look for all ages and for those of you that may be a little older, see if there’s one there that brings back memories, who knows you may have owned one of these at one time.
Please note all cars are accompanied by their owners and are for display only.
Rack Saw Demonstrations
There will also be rack saw demonstrations through the day. The rack saw was used to saw up large tree trunks to provide a source of timber. The rack saw differs from a conventional saw bench in that the large trunks are held on a carriage and the whole carriage moves along on rollers. The blade would have been driven from a fairly large portable steam engine or traction engine
Wade Dragsaw
There will be demonstrations on a Wade Dragsaw, used for forestry logging around 1923. These will be timed demonstrations throughout the weekend, cutting circular discs 3/3ft in diameter and 2-3 inches thick. The discs will be available for sale and are ideal for making table tops.
