Angling is one of the most popular participation sports in the UK. People of all ages and walks of life enjoy the many different types of fishing available, whether it be in the sea or freshwater and for a meal or just pleasure.
Over the last few years fishing has seen a massive uptake in the sport due to the Covid pandemic. Not only is it for fun and leisure but also good for mental health. It has become one of the few sports that you were able to enjoy during lockdown and has seen a large number of people both young and old, male and female return to the sport that they love.
At our Country Fairs our experts will once again be attending this event to offer you the very best in advice and guidance.
BARRY GRANTHAM.
Barry is a maker of traditional fishing tackle. He has been building Split Bamboo Rods for many years. He made his first rod in 1960 whilst doing the Duke of Edinburgh award. He has been making them ever since and his rods are sought after all over the world.
Barry will have on display some of his hand-built rods that you can view or have a cast with.
As well as the rods Barry also hand crafts Fly Fishing Reels, Centre Pin Reels, Landing Nets, Wading Staffs most of these items will be on display.
Barry will also have a vast range of fly-tying materials many of them rare items. If you do not make your own flies you can choose from a range of dry flies wet flies and lures.
New for 2025 Barry will have on display a range of spinning rods, spinning reels, multiplying reels, along with a range of lures for predator fishing.
Fly Casting Tuition
Barry Grantham is a casting instructor with the Game Angling Instructors Association {GAIA} and also a licenced level 2 with the angling trust. Come along and have a free twenty-minute lesson with Barry. This is a good opportunity. If you have never cast with or fly rod or would like to be shown advanced casting for instance the double haul or casting into wind. There will be other qualified GAIA and level two casters at all shows.
